Montesquieu Wine Featured on NBC’s Today Show

October 4, 2011, by: Lisa Duff Khajavi

Last week the Today Show featured a delightful food pairing segment presented by Jessica Harnois, President of the Canadian Sommeliers Association.  Today Show co-host Hoda Kotb and guest Nick Lachey (Newlyweds, The Sing-Off) enjoyed various wines chosen by Jessica featuring recommended pairings.

Of the myriad wines from all over the world Jessica could have chosen, she selected only six wines to pair with various dishes. These wines included one wine by Stéphane Derenoncourt and one by Michel Rolland—both world-renowned winemakers that Montesquieu Winery has the privilege to work very closely with.

The wine that Jessica chose to lead off the show with was one we know and love well, Michel Rolland’s 2009 Mariflor Sauvignon Blanc from the Uco Valley in Mendoza, Argentina. We are the exclusive source in the United States to carry this wine, so Montesquieu clients are the only ones who have the good fortune to have this wine in their cellars!

The Mariflor was paired with a dish of white fish and fresh green beans in a creamy herb sauce.  Jennifer was very enthusiastic about the Sauvignon Blanc, highlighting its “focused, citrusy style” and recommended white fish, seafood, and vegetarian pairings citing the Mariflor’s “great acidity”.

Those of you that have the Mariflor Sauvignon Blanc in your cellar, we have a roasted cod recipe that you can find here, as well as a chicken kabob recipe you can find here- both dishes are terrific with the Mariflor.  Stay tuned for our pairing recommendations that we feature in our “What’s Cooking with Montesquieu Wines” blog posts.

Jessica also chose a unique Turkish wine made by Stéphane Derenoncourt, the 2009 Pendore, paired with a lamb kabob which she praised for its “very nice finish and very nice balance”.

Stéphane Derenoncourt is an integral part of Montesquieu Winery, a key member of our buying team sourcing beautiful selections for Montesquieu clients from all around the world, as well as making wines specifically for our clients such as our flagship 2007 Montesquieu Derenoncourt Meritage from Napa Valley, and creator of the acclaimed Derenoncourt California collection in partnership with Montesquieu Winery.

We are proud to carry various wines from Michel Rolland’s Mariflor project in the Uco Valley, Argentina, which includes the Sauvignon Blanc featured on the Today Show as well as a fantastic Pinot Noir and exemplary Malbec. Our newest collaboration is making exclusive wines from the Uco Valley with Rolland especially for Montesquieu clients. We will keep you posted regarding the exciting upcoming debut of our inaugural 2009 Montesquieu Juntarse that we crafted with Michel Rolland and his team.

Enjoy the above video, and cheers from all of us to all of you!
