Tony, your description helps us get a glimpse of why Stephane loves Pavie-Macquin so! I think after reading Stephen's post, even if one isn't able to visit the vineyard in person, they'd still have a vivid image when drinking this wine--and what a wine it is!

What a day. To walk that legendary property in such perfect weather was an unforgettable experience. Bordeaux is indeed a magical place but its topography doesn't exactly leap out at you like Hermitage or some of the high elevation vineyards of Napa. The exception is St. Emilion but in particular Pavie-Macquin. To be amongst those old vines and look down upon the lesser (but still wonderful) terroirs of other Chateau gave me the perfect understanding of why this property is capable of such greatness.
